Blended Sounds...Urban Gospel and Contemporary Christian Radio

It amazes me that in 2009 it is virtually impossible to find a radio station that plays Contemporary Christian and Urban Gospel Music. I believe it would take the message of Christ to another level to have a lifestyle station that played the likes of Sho Baraka with Jeremy Camp, Toby Mac and Third Day! Why haven't we met in the middle? We have Contemporary Christian Stations and Traditional Gospel Stations but nothing in between. It's time to evolve and blend the sound because I don't know many people that exclusively listen to one genre of music. As people become more tolarant and seek for understanding and unity, we become more open to diverse sounds. It's taken on in mainstream radio; a progam may play Kanye West, followed by Chris Daughtry, then Mary J. Blige, then Brittney Spears. Hopefully, radio executives will give it a shot, but until then I'll continue to blog about it.

Social Innovator of the Year

...And the Award Goes To

On this page when I speak of Social Innovation, I'm not just talking about Social Media. While that is a vital part, it also entails doing something extraordinary to positively impact a community through deeds. With that said...

I met this Pastor on Facebook who was undertaking a great feat. He was launching a church in the middle of a Metropolis. It is one of the fastest growing cities South of the Mason Dixon line. So I followed what he was doing, read his frequent emails and updates; his churches development was really gaining momentum. With over 2,000 friends and counting on Facebook and who knows how many other followers in other networks, his practical message about life reaches across oceans and mountains at the push of a button. At this time in history, when many people are facing job loss at extreme rates, the message of hope needs to be given in unconventional ways tho reach lives that it may have missed. While implementing the blueprint for the church, he also challenged his following to contribute to a uniform and toy drive which blessed lives of inner city elementary school students. It is easy to see that he truly believes that nothing is impossible with God. And through his use of social media that message has gone viral. If you are in the Atlanta Area this Sunday, you should check out the grand opening. If you don't already know, the Social Innovator of the Year is none other than the "Facebook Pastor", Shaun King!

My Favorite Song of All Time

Today was the first day that I have been to church in 3 months (when I was pregnant, I literally needed that day to rest). When I woke up I needed some music to wake me up. I looked all over my house for the Clark Sisters "Encore" CD because I really wanted to hear them, but had no success with finding it. So I went to Youtube, because I remember viewing a lot of their videos this week. The first song I looked for is my favorite song by the group and my favorite song of all times. Why, you ask? Well I have two reasons: 1) The composition of the song the melody, the harmony, the way Karen leads it, The way Twinkie wrote it.... 2) The message of the song, Twinkie (the organist and the composer of more than 75% of the Clark Sisters catalog) has a way of taking scriptures and arranging them in a catchy way that keeps the lyrics in your mind and heart. So without further ado... My favorite song. Enjoy!

City Development 2.0: The Guide

So I've been all over the internet lately looking for new ways to offer relevent and meaningful content.  I've watched a number of great videos on Social Media and have been pondering, how can I make this information work for my service.  Then it dawned on me...There are many middle American towns and cities struggling to keep industry and businesses to sustain their economic base.  If you haven't learned by not, innovation is a must to propel any entity to the next level.  So I thought, what about the heartland of America?  How can these mid-range city's who are impacted the most benefit from a merger of economic development tools and Web 2.0.  I am currently in the process of compiling this information and will be presenting it in a guide for all who are interested.  My target is to have it complete by the end of February.  I'll be posting updates from time to time.  So stay connected, this promises to an awesome tool to propel stagnent City's to the next level.

Ping It!

I've been talking with Social Network Marketing professionals on LinkedIn and one had a question about streamlining their networking processes on line. I recommended Ping.fm which was recommended to me by Vincent Hunt. Pinging is a way to broadcast micro blogs. It is used to direct traffic to your sight and communicate simultaneously on multiple platforms. It has tremendously streamlined my marketing efforts and instead of going from network to network copying and pasting information, I can write one message and broadcast it among my various profiles.

So tell me about some Pinging sites?
Ping.fm (http://ping.fm) is the site that I am truly familiar with. It is extremely user friendly which is great for beginners.

I am still investigating the following:
1) Ping Goat (http://pingoat.com/)
2) Ping feedburner (http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/ping)
3) Google Blog Search Ping Service (http://blogsearch.google.com/ping)

Why? Well, not only do they broadcast to social networks, but they also broadcast to Google, Yahoo and other search engines. In this game, it's all about exposure. So Ping It!

Twitterville Branding

Your brand is everything.  So why not brand all of your online platforms?  The next platform that I will be branding is my Twitter page.  Why?  As always, why not? But seriously, Twitter users are very devout and once you start a conversation that your followers want to be a part of they will value your voice in the platform.  So when they come to your page why not leave them with more information about yourself...in essence, leave breadcrubs for them to follow.  Humans are curious by nature and want to learn more about a person or busness when interested so why not feed into that curiosity.

How?
Why not advertise your blog on Twitter.  Design a layout for the background of your twitter page.  Make sure to include the blog website, pictures a tagline and any other vital notes that round out your brand.  Because in business your brand is all you have.

Post
From observation your post are extremely helpful because the round out your thoughts and highlight your interests.  But don't over promote yourself, start valuable conversations, get to know a few people and assist them when they have an inquiry. The aquisition of knowledge is invaluable...you become a broker and you have are branded yourself as a valuable resource.   Make Twitter your voice.

Google This!

I really optimized my Google presence (I still have more to do, but this is where I started). Do you want to know how? Let's see, I started with joining various social media networks (example: Myspace, Facebook & LivePerson) . Secondly, I stayed somewhat active in my networks and some of the ones that I don't use anymore, I will never delete them because they are apart of my presence. Thirdly, whenever I blog, I tag two versions of my name: Jonnette Fair and Jonnette S. Fair. So Google me, and if you want to increase your presence simply these three techniques. Let me know how the work.

Is it the Wrong Time to Start a Business?

I think not, for a few reasons. Let's see:

1) We make more calculated risks that focus on the conservation of our resources.
Face it in this economy we are looking at our wallets more now than ever. When I had an online radio broadcast (a year ago), the primary reason I decided to discontinue the service is because I was paying for a good service, but did not receive the return on my end. Now that I think about it, it would have been more productive for me to start a social network (on a free platform such as Ning) and promote my show and play music that way until I established the following that would have been beneficial for the broadcast. If I was still interested in continuing the broadcast, this would be the strategy that I would implement... if I had more exposure to Web 2.0 when I launched the broadcast, I'm sure this cost efficient strategy would have paid off in the long run. No money out of the pocket until there were subscriptions in the "bank".

2) We are more strategic with our partnerships and alliances, focused on productivity and efficiency.
I was watching a web broadcast on You-Tube (unfortunately I don't remember who posted it) which was on transitioning your business to survive economic hardships. The first thing that was stated was "trim the fat". Look at your current contacts and partners and stay in contact with the ones that are always productive. "Don't focus a lot of your time trying to create business with contacts who have not performed for you in the past", because time is also a resource that needs to be used adequately.

3) We conduct more research which provides essential data needed to streamline our services.
I Google and search Wikipedia for everything. When I need more detailed information and feedback I start discussions in various groups in various networks and I'm not the only one. I constantly meet entrepreneurs who are constantly looking for information which will streamline their cost and innovate their products and services.

4) Potential clients are more focused on increasing their utility for a nominal fee, so services that they entrusted with more established company's may be outsourced to a startup if the startup can prove that they can provide the service effectively and efficiently.
Enough said.

5) Web, Internet, Social Networking, Blogging, Micro-Blogging...Need I Say More!
We're in the realm of free publishing and face it the web is the new face of public relations. So if you establish a presence on multiple platforms you are extremely likely to connect with individuals and businesses who can use your services or products. So if your out there keep grinding. If you're not, what are you waiting for create your client base online!

So if you are considering starting a business and wondering if now is the time, I say yes! If not now then when. You have all you need, get rid of doubt and move forward!

Man vs. Machine

It's amazing how we constantly battle with ourselves to find balance.  Everyone wants happiness and we live to love and survive.  But at times it is extremely hard to find the balance between what life demands and our passions.  Some of us have had the in site to listen to their inner voice and follow the path that leads to that balance.  While others have experienced setbacks that possibly make them question or not trust their inner voice.  This leads to the disconnect, where the passionate man turns into the machine.
I've observed, over time, that the desire and fight to survive most times trumps self discovery.  Instead of being persistent about your existence and happiness, humankind can sometimes folds to the daily stressors putting their passions on the back burner.
In due course we encounter many opportunities to convert from machine back to man.  But when that opportunity knocks the clutter of our lives sometimes blocks our re entry to ourselves. In the New Year, I encourage every one who reads this to evaluate their current state and ask yourself and I a man or a machine?
Ask yourself:
1.  Do I live my life to the fullest daily?
2.  Do I express my love and gratitude to the special people in my life?
3.  Do I play as hard as I work?
4.  Am I grateful for everything I have?
5.  Do I focus on my strengths or my weaknesses?  (If you focus on your weaknesses so your best to change your   paradigm and focus more on your strengths.)
6.  Am I content with my current occupation? (If not, I suggest the Marcus Buckingham Career Inventory on Oprah.com, it's extremely insightful).
As a Man:
1.   Trust your inner voice.
2.  Find time in your life to give, love, and reflect.
3.  Value the little thing.
4. Rekindle the passion for your life's purpose.
Remember life is a marathon, not a sprint.  It may take you a while to get to the destination, but the journey is just as important.
